It's not a joke. In a few moths, a BIG part of the first positions in Google will be YouTube videos. Without a YouTube channel, on certain searches, you won't have a chance for a position on the first page of Google. 

What is the recipe for success in online marketing?

Test -> Find the most effective ad -> Move your entire budget there -> Reap the benefits. Overall, this is good advice. It makes sense to maximize profits. The problem arises when something major and negative changes in the channel through which you promote yourself and was the only source of customers.

Risk diminution in online marketing - some methods

This year is a bit more atypical in terms of online promotion. Or at least that's how I perceived it. Two main promotion channels - Google and Facebook have fallen sharply in terms of efficiency.

Google has become very expensive - in general because the demand for ads has increased a lot - due to the migration of many budgets online.

Facebook has become more expensive and stupid - literally - because the algorithm has been changed due to legislative requirements imposed by the EU.

Specifically, the Facebook algorithm is not nearly as efficient in achieving its goals as you set it, which translates into a much higher cost. Google is just as effective, but it's much more expensive - that's about it. I know many businesses that relied almost exclusively on one of the two promotion channels and now have major problems looking for viable alternatives.

What exactly does risk management mean?
Risk reduction is one of the main occupations of any professional.

How do you reduce the risk?

Simple - through diversification. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. How does this translate into marketing? Don't spend most of your budget on the same promotion channel.

Basically, you can't control what Facebook, Google, Tik-Tok, one site or another do. BUT, you can diversify your promotion and not just use one promotion channel. 

Recommendations for the Diversification of Promotion Channels

Include in your promotion also channels in which the relationship between you and the potential client is very direct. How? Google, Facebook, Tik-Tok - are channels that are essentially intermediaries between you and the potential customer.

If all of a sudden your Facebook, Twitter, Tik-Tok, etc. account is banned / closed, you are actually left out. Most content is managed algorithmically. If the robot has something with you, it can suspend your account in a second.

What can you do?

You can invest in direct communication channels with your audience and diversify the channels. By far, the most robust communication channels are: Email and SMS.

Other complementary communication channels: Whatsapp - clearly it can fall and it's still Facebook. Or newer meta. Push Notifications

Sign up for Facebook / Instagram, Linkedin, Tik-Tok and YouTube and Pinterest and more recently Spotify.

What if you only sell well in one network?

Nobody says you have to put in the effort. Is Linkedin working much better than the others? Perfect - allocate 80% of your budget / time there. You will not die if you allocate 20% of the budget to the rest of the networks.

BUT, if linkedin upsets you and the robot bans your account, or explodes the price or I don't know what regulation forbids advertising there, then you run the risk of having big problems if you don't have alternatives.

If it is small, it increases the share of the budget allocated to the site

Your social media account is NOT LEGAL YOURS. You are not the owner. They are.

The site is YOUR LEGAL. Legally your site is more robust than your social media account.

It is good to have as much online presence as possible based on your site. Your site is YOURS.

Invest time in partnerships with other companies that offer complementary services OR are also promoted to your audience

You reinvent the long-forgotten art of collaboration between companies. Define the profile of your client (Buyer Persona) and see what other companies have clients with a very similar profile

    Example: the company that organizes mountain camps collaborates with a ski and sporting goods store
    Example: the company that makes custom furniture collaborates with the company that paints

Invest time in building relationships with your best clients

Do you have some customers who are significantly better than average?

It is very possible that they have very similar friends with them - about the same preferences, about the same standard of living, etc.

Invest in getting closer to the top 20% of your customers and statistically the chance is high to bring you other similar friends.

And when I say investment, I don't mean money. A simple phone call in which to ask what he needs or how you can help him, without necessarily selling him something can be a significant differentiator.

Lately, especially after the pandemic, the number of online stores has increased enormously. Many stores in shopping malls have entered the online area - forced by lower sales in physical spaces. Not everyone succeeds or will survive. The main reasons why online stores do not sell 

The sale price is NOT the only reason why some sell and others do not. I would say that in over 50% of cases, the price is not even the main reason. 

Do the following experiment - get a product from a large online store and search for it on Google. Except for the own brand products, you can most likely find the rest a little cheaper. And yet the MAJORITY of those who enter that store oline mare, buy from there, and the rest hardly sell anything, even if they have lower prices.

We are no longer in the stone age of online commerce. There are very few people who do not already have established sources for online shopping. Every buyer goes to the traditional supplier, which he has already gotten used to and knows is ok. If he doesn't know anything about you - what you're doing, why, what you're better at - he won't choose you over a provider he's already used to. Just a dry advertisement, which presents a product and a site that says nothing, will not convince the customer to buy from you. In other words, why would I risk not liking it when I can go safe with existing suppliers?

Possible solutions: 

•  Make a presentation video with you, your products, your business. Speak naturally, who you are, what you do, why, how you try to make this world better. And, most importantly - WHY buy from you and not from elsewhere. 
• Make videos or articles about the products you sell - not all of them; at the most important it is enough. Show why they are better than others. 
• Implement a longer-term branding campaign. Branding campaigns with small budgets can also be done - they are mainly based on remarketing.

ZERO authority and perceived expertise in that field 

Let's say you have to have surgery. Who do you turn to? 

1. to a doctor you know nothing about? 
2. to a well-known doctor, with dozens of published articles and scientific papers, plus appearances on TV and online? 

 Question: Which of the two will probably be more expensive? And would you pay the price difference? In health, the need for confidence is much higher than in the rest. 

Yes, but the concept applies to the general mode EVERYWHERE (with necessary differences). 

Here are two examples of good sellers: 

1. one was reviewing smart home product reviews 
2. another paid youtubers (gamers) to review the products he had (speakers) and promote them with his money. 

In both cases, the EXPERTISE was the one that sold. In case 1, it was directly the expertise of the owner. In case 2, it was the expertise and trust of the one who had the YT channel. 

Solution: 

Implement Content Marketing. 

You can do it yourself, you can hire an employee to do it, you can pay someone outside the company to do it. It matters less as long as it's quality.

There are also cases where someone does not have a default provider for products / services. Very rarely, however, will someone buy the first offer or the first product that comes their way. In general, the higher the price, the more offers you ask for. 

On average (very general) when someone wants to buy a product, check about 4-6 competitors before making a decision. 

The more pages you say and the more information you give, the better the chance of them choosing you. 

Myth: Many customers feel that a page with a lot of information is confusing. "The customer wants something simple - click and you're done" 

Yes, he wants something simple IF HE DECIDED TO BUY FROM YOU. If he has not decided who to buy from, he wants information. He wants to see where to buy. I'll tell you for sure - the one with just one button will not be chosen. 

Solution: 

Optimizing a page, at least at the basic level, is a well-known way. It's not a mystery what to do.

There are many types of centers of influence. When we first think of center of influence, it is more than possible that the lawyers or attorneys and the accountants come to mind first. In most cases, because we complement each other`s services.

Really a center of influence is anyone who, through their social or their professonal circles, can introduce us to our target market.

And they can do such whether it`s introductions or it`s word of mouth or referrals.

Why is a reciprocal benefit

So, the centers of influence, the importance of them, I feel it is actually twofold. One of them is that it makes our job a lot easier as far as prospecting because they are doing some of that for us. And the second reason is that we also surround ourselves with professionals and if our clients need their services, we have someone that we can trust to refer them to. And that is just an added value to our clients that we do business with.

The ones that you should chose to cultivate are the ones that aligne best with your target market. Maybe your target market is the family  market if you sell goods for children and parents. Or, if you create or/and sell digital goods, the market is so huge that you definitely should define specifically your target market. Or, if you work in the insurance field it is possible that your target is the family market, people interested in planning the financial future of their kids, people interested in retirement plans, people interested in estate, property insures.

If you just started your career or you are an experienced one, build through a networking group. Meet attorneys who practice family law, for example. They could be ideal for your maket. The relationship can continue and you reciprocate by giving each other referrals. You often could refer clients that are either putting in place a will, their power of attorney, or the need to update ne, or they are entering a new relationship and they need pre-nup and pre-cohabitation agreements. If they also do real estate law, it is an opportunity to refer to them and they reciprocate that way.

The same case could be with accountants. If you have the opportunity to build a relationship with them, there are great chances to build relatinships for years, even decades. Of course, maybe one accountant from social circles could reffer quite a bit of business at the beginning, but he could also be late in his carrer and he could decide to retire. He could sell his practice and the buyer could have other relationships in place, so the referrals from that one accountant actually could end. But the other one could continue. In any case, any business you can do it is a step to go forward. Other center of influence that you can find beneficial is a broker that deals with home and ca insurance needs.

Build relationships having in mind a long period of time, for years. If clients reach out to see whether you can refer them, you know that they will be taken care of if you refer them to your centers of influence.
